Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD)

Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD) is a specialised form of therapeutic treatment that focuses on stimulating the lymphatic system to promote the natural drainage of the lymph which carries waste products away from the tissues back toward the heart. It is widely used to reduce swelling, enhance immune function, and support overall health.

Specific purposes of MLD

1. Reduce Swelling and Lymphoedema:

Alleviates fluid retention caused by lymphatic system blockages or inefficiencies, such as after surgery, trauma, or certain medical conditions.

2. Support Immune Function:

Encourages the movement of lymph, which contains immune cells, improving the body’s ability to fight infections and heal.

3. Enhance Post-Surgical Recovery:

Reduces swelling and accelerates tissues repair following procedures like liposuction, breast augmentation or breast reduction, abdominoplasty, mastectomy or orthopaedic surgery.

4. Promote Detoxification:

Assists the body in removing metabolic waste and toxins, leading to improved cellular function and overall vitality.

5. Relieve Pain and Discomfort:

Provides relief from pain associated with swelling, inflammation, or chronic conditions like fibromyalgia.

6. Improve Circulation:

Stimulates lymphatic flow and enhances blood circulation, supporting oxygen and nutrient delivery to tissues.

7. Enhance Relaxation:

The gentle, rhythmic strokes of MLD help reduce stress and tension, promoting deep relaxation.
